Note how the second 's' of sechs drops out in sechzehn and the 'en' of sieben in siebzehn drops out!
Now for the quiz ..... having given you the basics I am going to give you some further numbers between 21 and 100, written out in full and wonder if you can work out what the numerals are. The numbers are broken up into their respective parts but are normally joined together. Let's look at the first number. You will note the difference I mentioned in the opening paragraph on numbers in the way numbers are formed once we go past 20.
vier und dreißig = [ ] vierunddreißig
ein und neunzig = [ ]
sieben und achtzig = [ ]
neun und zwanzig = [ ]
zwei und siebzig = [ ]
acht und vierzig = [ ]
zwei und fünfzig = [ ]
sechs und sechzig = [ ]
drei und achtzig = [ ]
fünf und zwanzig = [ ]
To finish up, choose 6 Lotto numbers between 1-20 in the spaces below. I will give you the numbers I have 'chosen' tomorrow. See if you can write them out in German
